In traditional Chinese food therapy, Chinese yam is classed as sweet and neutral — a gentle, balanced ingredient rather than strongly warming or cooling. Classical sources associate it with the Spleen, Lung and Kidney systems.
You will find it in slow-simmered soups alongside lotus seed and fox nut, or sliced fresh into congee. Dried slices need a longer cook to soften.
