The best recipes saved in September
Last updated October 8, 2026

September is when late summer turns to autumn, and these five recipes run from a no-cook fig and burrata salad to a soft apple cake. In between come Hong Kong café-style baked pork chop rice, 1950s salmon patties made with canned fish, and a quick one-pan spicy sausage and chickpea stew. Our editors picked them from the 64 recipes added to Nourishible in September.
1. Hong Kong baked pork chop rice
A Hong Kong café (cha chaan teng) dish. The pork chops are seared on a very hot grill pan for the marks only, then slow-baked on a rack for about 40 minutes. They sit on egg fried rice under mozzarella, a pineapple and tomato sauce and cheddar, and a last hot bake browns the cheese.

2. 1950s salmon patties with remoulade
Canned salmon, crushed crackers, a little mayonnaise and one egg are mashed together, softened bones and skin included. The patties are dusted with crumbs, rested for 3 to 4 minutes so the coating sets, then fried in butter for about 3 minutes a side. The remoulade is mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon and pickle relish.

3. Fig and burrata salad
This is a late-summer plate that needs no cooking. A ball of burrata is pressed into a plastic-wrap-lined bowl to shape a dome, then turned out onto a plate with mixed greens around it. Halved fresh figs, chopped walnuts, olive oil dressing and balsamic glaze complete the plate. Serve straight away so the greens stay crisp.

4. Spicy sausage and chickpea stew
A quick one-pan stew from a reel about canned beans. Spicy pork sausages are pulled from their casings and cooked with red onion, garlic, red chilli and cumin. Canned tomatoes, water and chickpeas follow, covered for 4 minutes, and baby spinach is wilted through at the end.

5. Soft apple cake
Everything goes in one bowl. Eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla are whisked for 4 to 5 minutes until pale, then oil is whisked in and flour, baking powder and apple purée are folded through. Thin apple slices tossed in cinnamon go on top, and it bakes for 30 to 35 minutes. The creator also gives an egg-free version.
