How lily bulb is seen in traditional Chinese food therapy. Traditional context, not medical advice.
- Classed as sweet and slightly cold with a faint bitterness, and associated with the Heart and the Lung.
- Texts distinguish raw lily bulb, associated with the Heart, from honey-fried, associated with the Lung. The Rihuazi Bencao lists it as settling the heart and nourishing the five organs.
- Lily soup or porridge, lightly sweetened with sugar, is a traditional summer dish, the sugar softening the bitterness. In dry autumn weather it appears with pear or white fungus.
- Reference texts advise against it for wind-cold cough and for loose stools from internal cold, so it is traditionally eaten sparingly by people who feel the cold.
